Protected & Served? Experiences of LGBTQ+ People
In May 2022, Lambda Legal in partnership with Black and Pink National launched the Protected & Served? community survey on the experiences of LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV and the criminal legal system including the courts, law enforcement, and in prisons and jails. Over 2,500 community members participated in the survey and from their responses, we have released Protected and Served? 2022 Report, Executive Summary, and Spotlight Report: Detained Participants available at www.ProtectedandServed.org
This program discusses new data on discrimination and bias in the criminal legal system including in the courts. Of the survey participants, 43.0% were people of color. We will discuss the experiences of participants and the interactions of race, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Speakers discuss ways to use and incorporate the findings and recommendations to eliminate bias and discrimination in the courts and the criminal legal system.
