NYSBA President Richard Lewis Praises the Commission on Legislative, Judicial & Executive Compensation for Recommending an Increase in Judicial Salaries

Richard Lewis, president of the New York State Bar Association, issued the following statement about the Commission on Legislative, Judicial & Executive Compensation approval of its report for increased judicial salaries:
“Judicial compensation reflects the value that we place upon the critical work that our judges perform. A properly funded judiciary is the foundation of a democratic society, and the operation of the justice system depends upon the confidence of all involved parties. New York State is a center for the legal, business, and financial communities and therefore it is imperative that we attract the most talented and dedicated individuals. Nobody decides to enter public service to get rich, but salary stagnation is an impediment to providing the quality of justice that all New Yorkers deserve.”
