Free CLE Examines NYC’s Response to COVID-19

The New York State Bar Association will present a virtual CLE webinar that looks at all the legal issues surrounding the coronavirus pandemic in New York City, including the perspective of the Mayor’s Office.

Entitled “The COVID-19 Crisis and New York City’s Response: Legal Issues,” the event will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12. It is free for NYSBA members and $150 for non-members.

Learn what steps New York City government has taken during the ongoing coronavirus outbreak to keep communities safe.

Liz Benjamin, managing director of Marathon Strategies in Albany, will lead a conversation that includes Kapil Longani, counsel to the mayor of New York City; Bess Chiu, the mayor’s chief of staff;  Kate Cocklin, the mayor’s deputy counsel and NYSBA President-Elect T. Andrew Brown, vice chancellor of the New York State Education Department’s Board of Regents.

The discussion will look at the novel legal issues the mayor and his lawyers have had to confront and resolve during this public health crisis such as the mayor’s executive powers, closing down and reopening New York City, regulating emerging COVID-19 clusters, setting up a robust contact tracing unit, price gouging during the height of the pandemic, quarantine orders, travel restrictions, outdoor dining, public transportation, schools, the interplay of state and local law, and more.
