Please join the Women in Law Section's commemoration of Juneteenth on Wednesday June 16, 2021 from 4- 5:00 pm with Hazel N. Dukes, one of the most important black civil rights leaders and political and social activists from the 1960s to the present.  The Honorable Tanya R. Kennedy, Associate Justice of the New York Appellate Division, First Department, will talk with Dr. Dukes about her critical work in the civil rights movement, including her service as the national President of the NAACP from 1989 to 1992, her work on President Lyndon B. Johnson's Head Start Program, her service as the first African American Vice-Chair of the Nassau County Democratic Committee, her continuing service as President of the NAACP New York State Conference since 1999, and more.  Dr. Dukes has been an outspoken opponent of policies that she has felt undermined achievements of the civil rights movement of the 1960s and is dedicated to education reform.
