CPLR: Practice Issues to Know Now

In this presentation, we will delve into crucial legal considerations, starting with the complex realm of jurisdiction and the feasibility of initiating legal action against a company. Our exploration of discovery involves navigating the nuanced process of acquiring comprehensive cellphone records, managing surveillance materials, and stressing the vital importance of meticulous preservation. The legal landscape will further unfold as we delve into the realms of Assumption of Risk/Comparative Fault, refining trial evidence practices to include the admissibility of records belonging to other individuals. Settling a case, potentially through email communication, will be a focal point, as will the alternative avenue of personal service through the Secretary of State. Stay abreast of the latest legal developments, including the New Affirmation Rules and the Uniform Rules for Trial Courts, which will be dissected in this comprehensive presentation. These key legal insights promise to be a valuable guide for navigating the complexities of the legal landscape.

Inclusive Communication for Legal Professionals: Breaking Barriers in the Workplace

This presentation aims to highlight the importance of embracing inclusive language in the workplace to foster diversity, promote a sense of belonging, and ensure clear communication. Inclusive language, which is gender-neutral, involves replacing coded or microaggressive expressions such as using "firefighter" instead of "fireman" and avoiding terms ending in "man" or "men."

The 60-minute presentation is structured around (1) exploring the historical development of gendered, racist, and classist language; (2) examining studies illustrating the impact of exclusive policies on workers; and (3) providing practical examples of inclusive language. Emphasis is placed on the positive effects of inclusive language on productivity and profits. For legal professionals, the presentation covers ways to interrupt institutional bias and discusses legal obligations for creating an inclusive environment, citing relevant cases and laws from various jurisdictions.
