What inspired you to go to law school?

As a first-generation American and college graduate, I supported my parents in navigating immigration and citizenship, taxes, and just about everywhere else. I learned early on about the positive impact lawyers could make especially in our community.

What area of the law interests you and why?

I am interested in combating fraud in the areas of consumer protection, compliance, securities, and tax. I enjoyed taking these classes as electives in law school and these areas are constantly evolving. As scams continue to become more sophisticated and harder to spot it is important to have lawyers who are well acquainted with the technology, and I personally understand the frustration in having older family members get caught up as they are often targeted.

What extracurriculars are you involved in and how have they impacted your experience?

I am involved with Sanctuary for Families, Parole Prep, the Council for American-Islamic Relations, and the NYSBA Task Force on Emerging Digital Finance & Currency. These different experiences have helped me grow and learn about the different ways to use a J.D.

What do you hope to achieve after you graduate?

I hope to find an area I enjoy practicing in and I hope to grow as much as I can. I would love to find an area where I can continue to learn my legal writing skills.

What advice would you give to your fellow law students?

I would tell them to reach out and find their community as the support of fellow law students is invaluable. I would also tell them to get involved in as many ways as possible to see what you like and dislike. Getting involved and going to bar meetings is a great way to reach out to other practitioners in the field you are interested. And for those who are straight out of college especially, finding those practicing lawyers or professors who have been working a long time and can help you navigate your first career moves is amazing support. Lawyers are always really excited to meet students, so you don’t have to feel shy!

Why should other law students join NYSBA?

Law students should join NYSBA to meet other lawyers, law students, and learn about different and emerging areas of the law. You can join specialized law groups and reach out and meet so many different lawyers in New York.
