The Intersection of Constitutional Law and New York Family Law: How SCOTUS Affects Our Practice
This session will provide a constitutional law scholar’s explanation of how the family law practice has been and will continue to be impacted by the Supreme Court of the United States’ decisions. The presentation will address issues attorneys should be prepared to address in pending cases and will review current New York caselaw and the possibility of new cases on the horizon in light of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization and other Supreme Court cases.

The New AFCC and APA Guidelines on Parenting Plan/Child Custody Evaluations
In 2022 the AFCC (Association of Family and Conciliation Courts) released their Guidelines for Parenting Plan Evaluations in Family Law Cases. This was an update of their 2006 Model Standards of Practice for Child Custody Evaluations. Also in 2022, the APA (American Psychological Association) released Guidelines for Child Custody Evaluations in Family Law Proceedings, an update of their 2010 Guidelines. This presentation will briefly review both Guidelines and highlight the differences and similarities.
