Convictions in Ahmaud Arbery Case Make Defendants Accountable for Racial Hatred

T. Andrew Brown, president of the New York State Bar Association, issued the following statement about the convictions in the Ahmaud Arbery case:
“A Georgia jury has determined that the three white men who murdered Ahmaud Arbery committed hate crimes. The federal convictions ensure that the men will be in prison for a long time. As an association that values the rule of law, we applaud the courage of 12 ordinary citizens who removed any doubt that these men acted out of racial animus. Holding these men accountable is another step in our country’s endeavors to eliminate systemic racism and heal from the racial injustice that resulted in the murder of George Floyd.”
